Up Close and Personal with 2010 Award Winners

Lisa J. Faia , MD

I am currently an Associate Professor at the William Beaumont - Oakland University School of Medicine and a partner at the Associated Retinal Consultants, P.C. I am also the Director of the Retina Rotation for the William Beaumont residency and the Uvetiis Service. Though most of my time is spent on the surgical and medical management of vitreo-retina disease, I get the awesome and challenging opportunities to work with a number of rheumatologists, neurologists, oncologists, and infectious disease specialists.

On the research front, I continue to explore my research interests in diabetes and uveitis.

On a personal note, we have three little boys at home who keep us young. Dates nights are treasured time for us and we use it to explore new dining experiences.

Shelley Day Ghafoori, MD

I am currently a partner with the terrific group at Austin Retina Associates, continuing to treat a wide variety of retina pathology as well as ocular oncology.

I continue to take part in a variety of clinical trials, and I have become a clinical assistant professor with the new UT Austin Dell Medical School and am enjoying teaching and working with medical students.

My spare time is mostly spent running around after my three little boys.

Charles C. Wykoff, MD, PhD

I am Director of Research at Retina Consultants of Houston, Chairman of Research and Clinical Trials, Retina Consultants of America, and Deputy Chair of Ophthalmology for the Blanton Eye Institute at Houston Methodist Hospital.

My research interests pertain to age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, angiogenesis and vitreoretinal surgical topics. I am passionate about translational research, clinical trial design and developing new approaches to improving outcomes for blinding diseases.
